And So It Begins

Being an avid sci-fi fan, my husband Don & I watch all of Babylon 5 probably 3 or 4 times now, and one of the main lines in it is "And So It Begins" the unknown takes on a new aspect. Understanding that what begins may not necessarily be enjoyable, but an adventure? save my life? maybe... Fear is not a factor here, but peace is. I'm wrapped in it, swaddled in it, looking to Jesus for it!

I got the call today, the breast cancer study arm I have been placed in is thankfully the shorter treatment one, the one without Herceptin. So glad that I do not have to get chemotherapy for a year! Just 18 weeks - in other words 1 treatment every 21 days for the next 18 weeks. Then a month off and radiation for 5-6 weeks for 5 days a week 1/2 hour a day (the treatment doesn't last that long, but the appointments do).

So I have one more week of enjoying any food I eat, not feeling sick, tired, or other things. Getting a port placed next Wednesday, because the one area that I don't deal with is the multiple sticks it takes to get a vein that is viable for either a blood draw or infusion. Look for the heart shaped bump on my right side... :-)

So the constant phone calls, e-mails to the doctor with questions, appointments with doctors, nurses, and so on has been weekly, nearly every day and I hope that part slows down once we get on the therapy. I'm hoping I won't have any severe reactions, but know that I might be a little unrealistic about that. It is quite the journey.

I don't know how much I will put on this blog. Getting to this blog sometimes is a challenge, but I did find it again so I'm posting my second post!

  1. Oh my dear...Will definitely keep you in our thoughts and prayers! Life as you knew it is about to change...there will be good things you learn as well as the bad parts but through it all know you have friends that are praying and believing for you! May God be with and bless you and your entire family throughout this journey!
